Summary: Collection primarily consists of typed and handwritten correspondence from Eugene Manlove Rhodes to Julia Brown Asplund requesting books on loan from the New Mexico State Library Extension Service, Museum of New Mexico. Included are one typed poem, two articles about Rhodes, and a letter dated August 27, 1930 from E.M. Rhodes of Three Rivers, N.M. to Captain John R. Hughes of El Paso, Texas describing his current activities and reminiscing about the surrender of Oliver Lee and Jim Gilliland.

Eugene Mangrove Rhodes was a writer of the old west. He was nationally known for his poetry, novels and, stories. Eleven of his books appeared serially in The Saturday Evening Post . Oliver Justin Lee was born December 16, 1881 in Montevideo, Minnesota. In 1901 he graduated from Augsburg Seminary. He received an AB degree from University of Minnesota in 1907, and a MA (1911) and PhD (1913) from the University of Chicago. From 1910 to 1926 he was an instructor, assistant astronomer and lecturer at Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
